Is the came lead or zinc? Sometimes it will fool you. If you can scratch it with your fingernail or actually cut into it with a knife, it is lead. If it is lead be careful - if you don't "scrape it to shiny" and just keep holding the soldering iron on it; all of a sudden it will melt and be gone. If you get it to shiny, it should solder okay. And if it needs to be re-leaded, that's fun, too!

If it is zinc, you have to work a little harder to get it shiny, but it won't melt quite as fast.

I'm nosy - when and where did you get this door? I have been doing repairs all summer that were supposed to have come from Detroit.
