I'm still having trouble picturing what you are doing, but if the neck is a free edge, a good heavy edge bead will help keep it from lifting. If you are hanging it by something soldered to the top, that puts additional stress on the neck edges. In that case, you should have wire or braided wire reinforcement running around the top and neck and into the side seams and, if possible, THROUGH your hanger.
