My dh put a hinged section on one of my tables, too. It is for flipping the panels. I raise the hinged section, slide a big panel onto it, and lower the section. The panel is then upright and can be easily turned and set back on the hinged section. There is a piece of molding along the edge so that the panel will set there. Then the section is raised again adn the flipped panel slid back onto the table.
