I like Glasseye. It is very simple to use and I am not one for taking the time for instructions or tutorials. I like to just sit down and hack a program. Personally, the autotrace is of limited utility. Glasseye acknowledges that it is best with line drawings rather than photos. For photos, many people like to play with the cartoon function in the Kodak easy share software. The software is free and, according to many, it works better. I have it since it came with my Kodak camera and it makes a passable cartoon without the cut lines.
You can try the autotrace function during the free glasseye trial, but you cannot save or print the patterns. Give it a try and see how it works. But do not make autotrace the deciding factor. I think most people do not use it that often and prefer just to freehand trace a photograph with their mouse. You still have to clean up and fix anything that is done through autotrace so it is not an automatic pattern maker.
If you already know CAD programs, then you can go that direction, but if not, why go through the learning curve? Glasseye is specifically designed for stained glass and has features with that in mind.
